Small Business Programs and Services

Shoreline is a home to many small businesses, and the City of Shoreline is committed to helping retain, support and grow these businesses.  The following information provides an overview of Shoreline's Small Business Assistance Program:

Small Business Accelerator
To support the small business community in Shoreline, the City contracts with the Shoreline Community College (SCC) Small Business Accelerator.  The Small Business Accelerator provides free one-on-one business counseling, business mentoring and business plan development. The Accelerator tailors assistance to the business owner’s individual needs and makes referrals to the Small Business Administration (SBA), SCC classes, or other educational opportunities, as appropriate.  The Small Business Accelerator also offers weekly workshops on various business-related topics.

For more information about the Small Business Accelerator or to see how the Accelerator can benefit your business, please contact Mark McVeety at (206) 533-6647, or via email at accelerator@shoreline.edu.  Please provide a brief description of your business or business idea along with information describing the type of business counseling assistance you are interested in.

Small Business Administration
The Small Business Administration also offers help to businesses through their Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) program.  SCORE counseling sessions are available on the first and third Thursday of each month at the Shoreline Public Library, located at 175th and 5th Ave NE.  To make an appointment for a counseling session, call the Shoreline Library at (206) 362-7550.  There is no cost for individual counseling.  For more information, go to:  www.kcls.org/shoreline/services.cfm

Relocation and Real Estate Services
To assist businesses interested in finding space to rent or property to buy in Shoreline, the City of Shoreline has partnered with other local area governments in creating a new Web site that consolidates the commercial property databases of different brokerage firms.  To access this Web site, please see www.NWProperty.net.

Planning and Development Services
Shoreline’s Planning and Development Services Department is responsible for long-range planning efforts and land use and building permit services.  The mission of this department is to ensure that Shoreline’s natural and built environments are healthy, safe and reflect the community's vision. The Economic Development Program offers assistance to businesses engaged in the development process, where an understanding of the goals and market context of a business can better define the intent and challenges of a development idea.

For information about permits, building and zoning regulations or to find out about any long-range planning processes the City may be engaged in, please call the permit desk at the Planning and Development Services Department at (206) 801-2500
