SustainableWorks Low Cost Energy Efficiency Audits
Shoreline residents can still take advantage of reduced cost energy audits and low financing retrofits from SustainableWorks, a Puget Sound non-profit. SustainableWorks has partnered with Washington State University Energy Management, Seattle City Light, Puget Sound Energy and others to bring this energy saving opportunity to the City. High-Efficiency Toilet Rebates Available
Conserve water at home and save $30 when you purchase a high-efficiency toilet. By replacing your old, water-guzzling toilet with an efficient WaterSense-labeled model, most households can lower their utility bills by $50 - $200 a year, depending upon household size and existing toilets. Reducing water use is good for the environment, for salmon, wildlife and all of us.
Shoreline residents can contact Seattle Public Utilities at (206) 615-1282 or visit the Saving Water Partnership website for rebate requirements. Rebates are available while funds last or September 30th, 2011, whichever comes first.
Storm Drain Marking
Community and school groups are invited to help keep our waters clean by marking storm drains with information that the water entering the drain “Leads to Stream.” All materials and instructions are available from the City. Storm drain marking activities are weather-dependent and should be conducted in dry conditions. For information or to make reservations call (206) 801-2455.
Environmental Mini-Grants
The City offers Environmental Mini-Grants to provide management and stewardship of our natural resources and environmental assets in order to preserve, restore, and enhance their value for present and future generations. Visit the Environmental Mini-Grants page for more information.
Adopt-A-Drain Program
The City of Shoreline’s Adopt-A-Drain Program is a volunteer-based opportunity for residents to help care for our utility infrastructure of 7,000+ storm drains. You can help make sure that rain water reaches the storm drain system by removing leaves and debris, which reduces the chance of flooding in yards and homes in your neighborhood. Car Washing in an Environmentally-friendly Way
Washing your vehicle at home may result in a clean car, but all that dirt and grime washes away straight into our streams and eventually the Puget Sound. There are safe alternatives to wash your car that do not harm and/or reduce the impacts to fish and wildlife. View the Car Wash Program brochure to learn about these tips.
Car Wash Kits for School and Community Groups
If you are a school or community group that wants to have a car wash to raise funds for your programs, the City has car wash kits for loan that help keep the soap and grime pollution out of our streams. To find out if your location works with a kit and to make reservations, call the Water Quality Specialist at (206) 801-2453.
Note: These kits are easy to use but do not work at all locations. For this reason we ask that you contact the Water Quality Specialist at least 2 weeks prior to your car wash event.

Park Restoration
Individuals and groups can improve our existing Shoreline parks by working with the Parks Department to remove invasive plants, plant native species and monitor habitat conditions. For information, call the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department at (206) 801-2623.
Backyard Wildlife Habitat Program
Do you have a garden and want to attract more wildlife? Whether it’s on a balcony or stretches across the backyard, you can make your garden wildlife-friendly by practicing natural yard care techniques and by providing food, water, cover and/or a place for wildlife to raise young.
Sustainable Shoreline Education Association has accomplished certifying Shoreline as a Community Wildlife Habitat. To learn more about creating a Certified Wildlife Habitat in your own yard, visit the National Wildlife Federation's Garden for Wildlife website.
Planting in the Right-of-Way
Shoreline residents can fill out a Notice of Planting in the Right-of-Way form to plant vegetables and other plants in the City right-of-way that do not impact visibility, drainage and pedestrian access/utilization. “Owner Will Maintain” Roadside Weed-free Program
When necessary, the City of Shoreline may occasionally need to spray weeds that grow on the gravel shoulders of roads. Residents who do not want crews to spray City right-of-way that abuts their property may post "owner will maintain" signs, which are provided free by the City. To receive a sign, residents must sign an agreement with the City to maintain the right-of-way themselves. Click here for more information about this program.
Adopt-A-Road Program
The City of Shoreline is seeking groups and individuals who want to help keep Shoreline a beautiful place to live by picking up litter along designated streets. All safety equipment is provided.
