About Shoreline

Welcome To Shoreline

ShorelineWelcoming totem boasts a unique history and character derived from original settlements dating back to the late 1800s. The quality that drew early settlers to the area remains dominant to this day: location. The City of Shoreline offers classic Puget Sound beauty and the convenience of suburban living with the attractions of nearby urban opportunities.

Before becoming a city in 1995, the City of Shoreline was an island of unincorporated King County surrounded by the older cities of Seattle, Edmonds, Woodway and Lake Forest Park. Covering 11.74 square miles, Shoreline has a population of more than 54,000 residents. It is primarily residential with more than 70 percent of the households being single-family residences. Over the years, the Shoreline community has developed a reputation for strong neighborhoods, excellent schools and abundant parks.

The City of Shoreline operates as a code city under the laws of the State of Washington with a Council-Manager form of government. The City's seven part-time elected Councilmembers choose a Mayor and Deputy Mayor from among their members.

Parks and Recreation

The City of Shoreline has worked hard to meet residents expectations since incorporation in 1995, and Shoreline families, neighborhoods and businesses have much to be proud of. Making Shoreline a great community takes the work of many. One service area that contributes to our quality of life is the Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services Department.

The City of Shoreline prides itself on the variety of services offered to the community in the most cost efficient manner possible. One of the ways the City maximizes taxpayer money is to partner with outside organizations to provide services. These "Quality of Life" Partners assist the City in a number of areas including human services; cultural services; recreation; neighborhoods; natural environment; and public safety.

The police department has helped make the City of Shoreline one of the finest and safest cities in the Seattle region. Services are contracted through the King County Sheriff's Office, but officers are dedicated to Shoreline, wear Shoreline uniforms and drive Shoreline patrol cars.
